Carlos Moreno

Carlos Moreno has been a teacher, a principal, a director, and now a Chief Executive Officer. But through it all he has been and continues to be an observer and a learner. A proud native New Yorker, Carlos is a passionate leader committed to supporting school and district leaders to create high-quality, non-conventional schools designed to tackle systemic issues related to equity and inclusion in education. He currently serves as Co-Executive Director for Big Picture Learning, a nonprofit organization that, since 1995, has developed nearly 300 such schools in the United States and throughout the world.

Carlos is also co-founder and co-director of both the Deeper Learning Equity Fellowship and the Ashé Leaders Fellowship, national leadership programs focused on supporting and developing leaders for underrepresented youth and communities. Carlos is the creator and producer of the highly acclaimed Leadership Journeys storytelling initiative, which has featured inspirational figures such as Dr. Christopher Emdin, Dr. Roberto Padilla, Rep. Justin Pearson (TN), Dr. Pedro Noguera, Kaya Henderson, Dr. Bettina Love, Former NYC Public Schools Chancellor Meisha Porter, and countless others.

Carlos is a Pahara-Aspen Institute Fellow, a Brock Prize for Education Award Finalist and author of the award-winning book Finding Your Leadership Soul: What Our Students Can Teach Us About Love, Care and Vulnerability (ASCD Books).
