Bio

Sheila Ohlsson Walker, CFA, Ph.D., has seen firsthand how sport can shape lives—as a lifelong competitive tennis player and the mother of three boys.

She believes the story of sport must be recast: as a powerful investment in preventative health and positive youth development, with the potential to generate meaningful multigenerational and societal returns. Done well, athletics can provide Protective and Compensatory Experiences (PACEs) that help buffer the effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) through a biopsychosocial combination of exercise-related benefits, experiential multimodal learning, and strong coach-athlete relationships.

Sport builds physical literacy, resilience, a growth mindset, perseverance, discipline, social connection, and emotional intelligence—capacities that protect health and catalyze construction of adaptive self-narratives that promote lifelong flourishing. While sport is a major developmental asset for all young people, it can be especially powerful for girls, embedding confidence, competence, and leadership skills that transfer from court to classroom to career.

Through science, advocacy, and philanthropy, Sheila is committed to making youth sport safer, more engaging, more joyful, and more accessible. She believes sport and free play are basic human rights—and every young person deserves the chance to play.
